Provide access to people with visual impairment

Provide access to people with visual impairment

Accessibility equates to productivity by all

Empowering individuals and businesses is a foundational value at Entellic®. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 1.3 billion people in the world live with some form of vision impairment. When software is made to function for these people, they become an immense resource to organizations. Entellic stands ready to help your organization make your software accessible to this untapped resource.

What Is Accessibility

Accessibility is the design of a product, device, service or environment for people with disabilities. A disability is defined as an impairment that may be cognitive, developmental, intellectual, mental, physical, sensory, or some combination of these that can substantially affect a person’s life activities.

For governmental agencies, accessibility is required

As of January 18, 2018, Section 508 Information and Communication Technology Final Standards and Guidelines became effective for all Federal agencies covered by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. (See Ruling Publication). In addition, many state agencies, federally funded universities and organizations seek to comply with these guidelines as a matter of policy.

What can you do If your apps don't meet accessibility requirements?

Following the assessment of your software, we will provide you an Accessibility Evaluation Report outlining all of the recommended changes to be done. You can provide this report to your current software provider, who can make those changes for you.

However, if your software provider can not make the necessary changes, let's discuss how you can augment, integrate, or replace apps that are accessible.

Entellic can help you deploy productive, accessible workgroup applications

We make apps that include productive features while also providing accessibility to all users. We develop and deploy apps using the FileMaker® platform. This innovative, rapid-development platform includes everything needed to make apps that meet the Section 508 guidelines. Embedded within the FileMaker development suite are toolsets to ensure the highest level of accessibility.

The FileMaker software Accessibilty Inspector

As objects, fields and labels are placed on FileMaker application layouts, they can be named and tagged with descriptive terms. Then, by using the FileMaker software Accessibility Inspector, additional information and help instructions can be embedded into these elements.

The result: Screen readers and other assistive technologies can access and present these descriptions to the user.

Access to software using keyboards is of ultimate importance to screen readers

Once fields and layouts are created with proper labels and accessibility attributes, the developer must program a tab order to each layout.
